Tempted to play singles again, but won’t return to the WTA circuit: Mirza
SANIA MIRZA is practicing singles again. With Agnieszka Radwanska exiting from the Indian Aces’ squad, Mirza might be required to fill the slot in the singles competition for the remaining Singapore leg of the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL). Although veteran Svetlana Kuznetsova has been roped into the Aces’ team, Indian fans might have the opportunity to see Mirza play in the women’s singles once again.
However, the World no.1 women’s doubles player isn’t contemplating about returning to the singles draw on the WTA tour.
As reported by gulf news,
"Honestly, I have thought about playing singles many times and if my body allowed it, then I would have. Believe it or not, I was practicing singles points as well yesterday, but I find it is tough to accept the fact that I can’t play singles even though I still have the level as a tennis player to play singles.
The 29-year-old was a former regular in the singles circuit and before being marred with injuries even achieved a career high ranking of 27 in 2007.
Mirza further added,
“So if my body did allow me, then I would have (returned to singles). Am I tempted to play singles? Sure, yes. Is it going to happen? Probably, not.”
