We have our eyes set on reaching 44 and breaking the record of Sukova-Novotna: Sania

SANIA MIRZA AND MARTINA HINGIS seem to have forgotten ways to lose their tennis matches. Ever since the duo paired up in March 2015, they have dominated all the teams, across surfaces and continents on their way to glory. Santina have amassed titles on the WTA tour and are also on the cusp of holding all four Grand Slam doubles titles at the same time.

Their dream run is still intact and the pair is enjoying their unbeaten streak of 40 consecutive wins. Now, the world’s best ladies doubles team is chasing another record-breaking feat. Back in 1990s, the team of Jana Novotna and Helena Sukova has won 44 matches in a row. At 40 wins, Santina are just a few more wins away from re-writing the history books.

Speaking to tennisworldusa, India’s Mirza said,

"We're obviously very happy to win another title but, now that we're coming closer and closer to the next target of 44, we can't help but think about. But it's not something we really want to think about; we're really excited to be at 40. We didn't think in our wildest dreams that this was going to happen. I think I can speak on behalf of both of us that we're going to play every match on merit and try to get to 44".

Given their impressive run and momentum, it won’t come as a surprise for tennis fans to see Santina set new standards for women’s doubles tennis going ahead.
