Meanwhile, men's doubles player Rohan Bopanna and his Romanian partner Florin Mergea had to bow out of the competition in the opening round.
Sixth seeds Bopanna/Mergea lost to Uruguayan-Spanish pair of Pablo Cuevas and Marcel Granollers 2-6, 6-4, 10-4.
