London Olympic stadium may host 2019 World Cup matches

THE ICC is likely to give green light to the London Olympic stadium for hosting some of the matches of the 2019 World Cup. 

According to an espncricinfo report, the ICC have conducted a full inspection of the ground and have found the pitch dimensions in compliance with requirements for ODIs. It is learnt that the stadium has a capacity of 60,000. 

However, sources reported that a final decision on the inclusion of the stadium for hosting World Cup matches is expected in the coming months. 

As reported by IANS, the move is an attempt to draw more crowd for some of the group stage matches of the major tournament. The ICC is also mulling at setting up fan zones around the country to help promote the tournament.
