Dhoni has maintained a low profile despite being such a big star, says Muralitharan

SRI LANKA GREAT Muttiah Muralitharan has heaped praise on MS Dhoni and has termed the wicket-keeper batsman as one of the best captain in Indian history. Dhoni, who has led India to two world cup victories, recently stepped down as a skipper of India’s limited overs side.

In an interaction with IANS, Muralitharan recalled his IPL days, where he used to play under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, and divulged,

“In my long cricket career, Dhoni is one of the best Indian cricket captains. The three years I played under his captaincy in Chennai Super Kings (CSK), I never saw any arrogance from Dhoni. He was always down to earth and was open to take advice from senior players like me and Michael Hussey. Being such a big star, he always maintained a low profile.”

When asked whether Virat Kohli will be able to take up the leadership of the ODI and T20 side, the Lankan spin legend said,

“I have high hopes from Virat as he loves to take challenges and is a terrific batsman. This England ODI team and T20 team is very competitive and totally different from the Test side. Kohli should not take the English team lightly and should always go to Dhoni for advice on the field. It is going to be a tough series.”
