Sourav Ganguly likely to be re-elected as CAB president without much resistance

FORMER INDIA SKIPPER Sourav Ganguly is expected to be re-elected as Cricket Association Bengal (CAB) president without facing much competition at the 85th Annual General Meeting of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on July 21st.

Although current joint secretary Avishek Dalmiya is set to challenge for the top job, it is a far-fetched idea that many would file nomination to contest in the presidential election to face rivalry from the 'Prince of Calcutta'.

As reported by PTI, a senior CAB official said,

“In CAB, two weeks is a long long time. The last date of filing nomination is July 23 and any member can withdraw on the floor. So it is a very fluid situation at the moment. Even if anyone wishes to contest against Avishek, a couple of phone calls from ruling dispensation can change the picture completely. So no one should speculate anything right now.”

Under Ganguly’s tenure, the CAB has hosted two top-tier games at 2016 T20 World Cup - India Vs Pakistan and the finals of the tournament between England and West Indies.

Sources reported, Treasurer Biswarup Dey as the face of opposition but the lawyer turned cricket administrator chose to be diplomatic.

“Let me be very clear, I’m not an opposition. CAB is a team and they will decide whether there would be any election.”
