13 home tests in one season: BCCI announces 2016-17 schedule

THE BOARD of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the schedule for 2016-17 season stating that the likes of Rajkot, Vizag, Pune, Dharamshala, Ranchi and Indore would be hosting their debut Test games. India is scheduled to play 13 Test matches, eight ODI and three T20s in the forthcoming season.

As reported by bcci.tv, Secretary Anurag Thakur said,

 “I welcome the new Test venues hosting this prestigious format of cricket and their arrival will take Test match cricket, to every corner of the country.”

According to the BCCI tour programme schedule New Zealand, England, Australia and Bangladesh are set to tour India in the upcoming season. 

New Zealand’s tour of India:

India’s home season starts with three Test matches and five ODIs against New Zealand. The three Tests will be played at Indore, Kanpur and Kolkata. And, Dharamshala, Delhi, Mohali, Ranchi and Vizag are set to hold five ODIs. 

England’s tour of India:

Following the conclusion of New Zealand tour, India will play five Tests, three ODIs and three T20s against England. The five Tests will be played at Mohali, Rajkot, Mumbai, Vizag and Chennai. Pune, Cuttack and Kolkata will be the venues for the three ODIs. Bengaluru, Nagpur and Kanpur will hold the three T20Is.

Australia’s tour of India:

Australia will visit India in February-March 2017 to play four Test matches. The four Tests will be hosted by Bengaluru, Dharamsala, Ranchi and Pune.

Bangladesh are slated to play a one-off Test match, which will be played at Hyderabad. 

Cricket’s top governing body also announced that India’s domestic cricket season will kick off in the month of September, where Duleep Trophy will feature day/night multi-day matches played with pink ball.
