Shashank Manohar resigns as the BCCI president

SHASHANK MANOHAR, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stepped down from his position, as reported by cricbuzz.

In a recently held meeting in Dubai, the ICC came to a conclusion that its chairman will be an independent one and shall be elected in a secret ballot in May. The ICC stated after the meeting,

"The election process will be overseen by the ICC's independent Audit Committee Chairman and all present and past ICC directors will be eligible to contest the election. However, candidates can only be nominated by a fellow ICC director who, in turn, will be allowed to provide no more than one nominee. Any nominee with the support of at least two Full Member ICC directors will be put forward as a candidate for election."

Manohar, who took over from N. Srinivasan as ICC’s chairman in Nov 2015, would not have been eligible to contest for the post in the upcoming elections if he had held on to his position with BCCI.
