India will play New Zealand in its first ever day-night Test

THE BCCI have agreed to host a day-night Test during New Zealand’s visit later this year. As reported by PTI, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said,

“We have decided that we will play one Day/Night Test match with pink ball against New Zealand later this year. Before that Duleep Trophy will act as a dress rehearsal for the Day/Night Test match.”

Only one competitive day-night Test has been played so far, where Australia beat New Zealand by 3 wickets at Adelaide Oval. Where the pink ball used, was played on grassier than normal surface to ensure that the ball lasted for 80 overs.

According to the BCCI secretary, Indians will be getting a chance to acclimatise with the pink ball when the ball features at the Duleep Trophy. He added that while the Kiwis are scheduled to play three tests against India while the venue was still undecided.

“While we have not zeroed in on the venue, there are lots of factors that need to be taken into account. Things like dew factor, how the spinners bowl with the pink kookaburra on Indian pitches. These things we will get an idea during the Duleep Trophy.”
