Kolkata keen to host IPL final if BCCI does not get stay on Bombay HC verdict

THE CRICKET ASSOCIATION OF BENGAL (CAB) is keen on hosting the IPL final in case the BCCI fails to get a stay on the Bombay High Court's verdict of shifting 13 matches outside the drought-hit state of Maharashtra.

As reported by PTI, CAB secretary Subir Ganguly said,

"We are not going to go up and say anything but in case BCCI wants Eden to host the final, we are always ready. Who will refuse an IPL final? The CAB has already organised two high-profile World Cup games (India vs Pakistan) and (World Cup final between West Indies and England) successfully.

The other contender to host the final is Bangalore, but the Eden Gardens holds the edge as its crowd capacity is 67,000 as compared to Chinnaswamy stadium's 25,000.

This is the second time Mumbai will not host the final after they lost out on the opportunity in 2014 as the final was shifted to Bangalore in a last-minute change.

The shifting of the matches outside Maharashtra also means that the Kings XI Punjab will now play their three home games in either Mohali or Dharamsala instead of Nagpur.
