India got a taste of their own medicine by preparing a turner: Gavaskar

AFTER SUFFERING a heavy defeat against New Zealand, former captain Sunil Gavaskar feels that the hosts got a taste of their own medicine, and should be prepared to play on the turning wickets as well.

India succumbed to the spin trio of Nathan McCullum, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi, who picked up nine wickets amongst themselves to humble India by 47 runs.

As reported  by PTI, Gavaskar said,

"If you are giving this medicine (spinning track) to opposition, then you should be able to take it yourself. We need to accept that India have struggled against quality spin bowling. If they would have won, there would not have been any talk on the pitch."

The 66-year-old feels the hosts have made it difficult for themselves to qualify for the semi-finals by losing the opening game to the Black Caps.

"Whether you win or lose, the next game against Pakistan is a must-win game. Also if you lose, the you are out of the tournament. They have struggled against New Zealand, they might find it even tougher against Pakistan, if this is the kind of pitches they want," Gavaskar said.

According to the legend, the hosts lost because they were over-confident, but credit should be given to the Kiwis for selecting the extra spinner in the 11.

"India lost because they were over-confident but the NZ think-tank needs to be credited for picking three spinners for this match," the former opening batsman said.
