Beating a quality Indian side gives us the confidence to do well in the tournament: Santner

NEW ZEALAND ALL-ROUNDER Mitchell Santner says beating India in their own backyard yesterday was a confidence booster for their side going ahead into the tournament.

As reported by Deccan Chronicle Santner said,

"They are a quality side but we were lucky enough to get that done It's a bit of a confidence booster. There are a lot of positives to take out of this game but there's also a couple of work-ons. We’ll take each game as it comes."

Batting first, the visitors found it difficult to get going on a slowish wicket, but came back strong in the second innings to bowl out India for 79 to win the game by 47 runs.

Santner, who won the man of the match award for his effort with bat and ball said the team took a gamble playing three spinners, but the move proved to be a smart one in the end.

"Looking at the pitch we knew that it would probably have a bit of spin there, I guess it was up to the selectors but I thought they'd go with another spinner and it paid off tonight."
