Afridi was smart in saying nice things about us; crowd at Eden will not be hostile towards Pakistan: Gavaskar

PAKISTAN CAPTAIN Shahid Afridi made headlines a few days back after the maverick cricketer said that his boys get more love from sports buffs here in India than from those back home.

Following his flattering remarks, the 36-year-old has come under severe criticism from the Pakistani fans and today, the legendary Javed Miandad also slammed Afridi for his praises on the Indian public.

Our very own Sunil Gavaskar also joined in the discussion and said, the Pakistani skipper has smartly won some heart of the Indians after his with his sweet remarks.

As reported by PTI, the former Indian skipper said,

"Emotions run high before India-Pakistan match. What Shahid said was a good way to say nice things about Indian public. The crowd at Eden will not be hostile towards Pakistan,"

Gavaskar further told Ndtv,

"If you have hostile crowd, it can also lift your game but if you are overwhelmed by a hostile crowd, you don't play your natural game, you play into crowd hands. This is a fine way to win the Eden crowd. Having played in the IPL, he may have meant what he said.”

Pakistan will start their World T20 campaign tomorrow against Bangladesh and after having lost to them in the recently concluded Asia Cup, Pakistan will need to be on top of their game to avoid any further disaster.
