Yuki, Saketh enter R2 of Zhuhai ATP Challenger, Ramkumar dumped
INDIA'S NO.1 singles player, Yuki Bhambri fought through the challenge of Peter Gojowczyk 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in round one of Zhuhai ATP challenger in China today.
In the final set, the Indian was on the cusp of being knocked out trailing 1-4, but hit back and won a series of games to level the match at 5-5. In the end, a crucial break in the 11th game was enough for Yuki to edge in front in two hours and six minutes.
In the second round, the no.1 seed will take on Ti Chen.
Meanwhile, India’s second best singles player Saketh Myneni wasted little time in dispatching Zheng Li 6-1, 6-4 in just over an hour.
Myneni will face Australian Luke Saville in round two.
Unfortunately, their compatriot Ramkumar Ramanathan suffered an early exit at the hands of Australian Jordan Thomson 6-7) (5), 5-7. Although the Indian fought hard throughout the two sets, his serve couldn’t get the job done under pressure.
