Novak Djokovic wins record 24th Grand Slam, dedicates it to late friend & mentor Kobe Bryant
NOVAK DJOKOVIC HAS extended his number of Grand Slam titles to a crazy 24.
In the final of US Open 2023, he took on Daniil Medvedev in what turned out to be dominant performance from the 36 year old. He won the first set 6-3, and faced tough competition in the second, which he managed to edge by 7-6 (7-5).
In the third set he was back to dictating things, sealing the victory by 6-3.
This straight set triumph has not only made him the winner of the most grand slams in the world, but also earned him the unique distinction of being the only men's tennis player to win 3 or more Grand Slams on 4 different seasons, overtaking Roger Federer.
The moment of victory was an emotional one for Djokovic as the number 24 represented the jersey that basketball legend Kobe Bryant wore at the Los Angeles Lakers. He paid resepects to the late sporting legend who was his friend and mentor after winning the title.
