Yuki squanders 3 match points, goes down to Rosol in R1 of ATP Dubai Tennis Championships

WILD CARD ENTRANT YUKI BHAMBRI squandered three match points to lose against Czech Republic’s Lukas Rosol 6-2, 6-7(2), 0-6 in round one of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships today.

Both players started holding serve without much trouble for the first four games of the opening set, but in the following game, the Indian broke his opponent to lead 4-2. In the end, Yuki got another insurance break to nail the first set in just about 23 minutes.

Into the second set, Yuki hit back with another break early to lead 2-0. However, the Czech responded quickly with a break of his own and as the set progressed, both men kept winning games by breaking each other’s serve. In the 12th game, the 23-year-old had three match points but squandered them all to get into the tie-breaker. Rosol then took control of the tie-break and took the match into a decider.

In the final set, Rosol broke Yuki early for a 2-0 lead and since then the better-experienced pro completely took control of the set and bageled the Indian to wrap up the match in an hour and 52 minutes.

Meanwhile, in the doubles event, India’s Mahesh Bhupathi and Pakistan’s Aisam Ul-Haq Qureshi lost to the Italian pairing of Simone Bolelli and Andreas Seppi.

In the first set, the Indo-Pak pair lost their serve in the middle of the set to handover the advantage to the Italians. In the second set, the wild card entrants lost their serve twice and that’s all Bolelli/Seppi needed to progress ahead in an hour and eight minutes.
