We don't want to always come from behind; we want to start also well: Shastri

IN THE LAST TWO SERIES, the Indian team has come back from the brink to win the contest eventually. In Australia, India struggled in the ODIs but finished the tour with a bang. Similarly, a few weeks back against the Lankan’s the men in blue lost their first T20 match in Pune, but hit back to win the series emphatically.

The Indian boys will start their Asia Cup T20 journey tomorrow against the hosts Bangladesh and it is important for the 2007 champs to get a win under their belt early. Speaking on the same, team director Ravi Shastri told espncricinfo,

“We don't want to always come from behind. Sometimes we want to start also well. So hopefully we'll be looking to do that in this tournament. Like I said, every game from now is important before the World Cup. Yes, we are playing the Asia Cup but the momentum is good so it's important to keep that momentum going."

Indian fans will remember how Bangladesh beat the men in blue a year back, but the director Shastri doesn’t think that loss holds any relevance to this contest.

“That was eight months ago, I've already forgotten about it. There's been plenty of cricket since. Ask about what's been going on in the last two months. Anything before that, I don't have in my memory."

That said, the former Indian cricketer did talk about the evolution of cricket in Bangladesh and also expressed his views on how teams shouldn’t be taking the hosts easily.

“I've seen cricket in Bangladesh grow, I've come here right through the 90s as a broadcaster. I'm happy to see the way cricket has developed and I'm happy to see the Bangladesh has evolved as a team. No team can take them lightly as they showed last year playing one-day cricket and tribute to them. So they have the respect of every opposition and India will be no different."
