Bhupathi/Bhambri trump Saketh/Sanam to win the doubles title at ATP Delhi challengers

The experience of Mahesh Bhupathi and Yuki Bhambri proved to be the deciding factor as the duo beat the challenge of Sanam Singh and Saketh Myneni 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 to win the men’s doubles title at the ATP Delhi challengers today. 

In the first set, the more experienced pair of Bhupathi/Bhambri broke their compatriots Saketh/Sanam to grab the early advantage. From there on, Bhupathi/Bhambri did little wrong and broke their opponents once again to grab the opening set. 

In the second set, Saketh/Sanam broke in the very first game, but Bhupathi/Bhambri hit back with a break of their own. For the next two games, both teams relied on breaking each other. However, in the seventh game, Saketh/Sanam got the decisive break to take the match into a decider. 

In the final set shoot-out, it was anybody’s game, but Bhupathi and Bhambri drew upon their experience and held their nerve to win the deciding set 10-5 and nailed the match in an hour and 28 minutes. 

Looking back, both teams didn’t serve at a high percentage and it all came down to a few crucial points in the end, Bhupathi/Bhambri won 65 points for the match in comparison to their opponents’ 62.
