Bhupathi/Bhambri beat Mertens/Robert for a spot in the semis of ATP Delhi challengers

MAHESH BHUPATHI AND YUKI BHAMBRI are enjoying their time together playing in the men’s doubles event at the ATP Delhi challengers. The Indian pair beat the Yannick Mertens and Stephane Robert 7-5, 6-1 in the quarter-finals today.

After a first close set, Bhupathi/Bhambri played some high percentage tennis in the second set to shut the door on their opponents. The Indian duo also managed to convert 71% of their break point opportunities and wrapped up the win in just under an hour’s time. 

Bhupathi/Bhambri will play Jimmy Wang and Zhe Zhang in the semis tomorrow. 

Meanwhile, no.4 seeds Sanam Singh and Saketh Myneni too won their quarter-finals against compatriots Jeevan N and Vijay Prashanth 7-6(4), 6-4. It was a tight match with both teams hanging tough, but in the end, good buddies Sanam/Saketh managed to convert 75% of their break points and nudged ahead in an hour and 20 minutes. 

Top seeds Divij Sharan and his partner Flavio Cipolla got lucky for a walkover win to the semis against Joris De Loore and Kimmer Copejans. In the semis, Sharan/Cipolla will lock horns against Sanam and Saketh. 

In the singles draw, India’s Prajnesh Gunneswaran too got lucky with a walkover against Yan Bai. The wild card will now face Copejans in the quarter-finals.
