Our batsmen didn’t know how to stay at the crease and get some more runs: Chandimal

AFTER GAINING EARLY MOMENTUM in the series, the Sri Lankan team failed to capitalize on the lead and crumbled in the next two games to lose the series against the formidable Indians.

In their first outing in Pune, the visitors produced some brilliant cricket, but their inexperienced players eventually succumbed to the international pressure in Ranchi and Vishakhapatnam.

Lamenting about the loss, Lankan skipper Dinesh Chandimal told PTI,

"Throughout the series we played good cricket. In the first game we got momentum but in the second and third games, we did not start well. In Ranchi, we did not bowl well in the first six overs and here we lost four wickets during Power play overs. These are mistakes in the last two games.”

Their stalwarts in Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga gave the tour a miss and that clearly exposed quite a few grey areas in the Lankan camp. Furthermore, the experience of recently retired legends in Mahela Jayawardene and Kumara Sangakkara too was felt by the tourists.

Chandimal further added,

"We have got an inexperienced team. They don't know how to stay at the crease and get some more runs. We struggled with that. I think they will learn as soon as possible and we are looking forward to do well in the next series.”
