Whose goal is it anyway? Misattributed Duffy goal causes confusion
AN EMBARRASSING FAUX-PA saw the I-League administration left red-faced as their official information channels, including the official Twitter account, mis-attributed a goal scored by Salgaocar striker Darryl Duffy in their match against DSK Shivajians to Thongkhosiem Haokip.

Goalllll!!!!! Haokip giving @salgaocarfc what they needed most @salgaocarfc leads by 1 goal in the match
Even the Salgaocar team's official twitter account reported the same.
39' GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!! Haokip it is who draws 1st blood... #DSK 0-1 #SFC #DSKvSFC #HeroILeague #GoTheGreens

The goal in question came in the first half of the match being held at Pune's Balewadi Stadium. Since there was no live telecast of the match, most fans were dependent on the league's social media accounts for updates on the match. So when the goal was attributed to Haokip the misinformation spread fast.
Duffy scored two subsequent goals in the match which were, thankfully, attributed to him without any mistake. Salgaocar won the hard-fought game by a 3-2 margin.
After the game, when the striker rook to Twitter to express his happiness over scoring the first hat-trick of his senior career, he found, to his surprise, fans telling him he in fact had scored a brace.
@duffers9 @ileagueofficial Hat-Trick? You scored a brace!#DSKvSFC#HeroILeague

The Scottish striker seemed to be taking it all in good humour and engaged in some light banter reiterating his claim of scoring a hat-trick.
But it wasn't until this morning that the official I-League handle issued a tweet admitting the mistake.
Darryl Duffy, @Duffers9 , scored a hat trick against @dskshivajians . The 39th-min goal was scored by him, but not Haokip. #DSK 2-3 #SFC

The whole matter seems to have been resolved without much hassle but the incident has once again highlighted the massive gaps in the management and showcasing of India's highest league. That I-League is so often treated with apathy even by its organizers, broadcasters and media department has once again been laid bare for all to see.
