Mohun Bagan, East Bengal slam AIFF over Sporting and Salgaocar’s withdrawal
KOLKATA CLUBS, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal slammed the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for their negligence towards the I-League clubs after two top Goan clubs, Sporting Club de Goa and Salgaocar withdrew from the nation’s top tier domestic tournament.
As reported by PTI, top East Bengal official Kalyan Majumdar said in his usual sarcastic tone,
"It's another nail in the coffin. Now, what's left to play for in the I-League. The president and his entourage should play the I-League now."
The iconic Goan clubs joined the list of discontent clubs like Pune FC, Bharat FC and Royal Wahingdoh, who pulled out of the I-League with AIFF keen to make the lucrative franchise based league ISL as its top tournament.
The East Bengal official further added,
"The AIFF is not clear what they want to do. They are supposed to inform us. You cannot equate the likes of Delhi Dynamos to East Bengal. You compare the history."
Also, Mohun Bagan top official Anjan Mitra called for an urgent meeting of all the state’s football associations.
"We have to sort out the mess. All the state units must sit together and take steps amicably, if not we should follow a legal route. We (the federation) should not only think of making money. We are keeping a close watch."
