#GoaExit aftermath: Salgaocar striker Darryl Duffy joins Mohun Bagan, to play in CFL

IN THE WAKE of Salgaocar and Sporting Clube de Goa exiting the I-League, their players left to look for other clubs. And one of the first to make a major move to another I-League club is their biggest striker Darryl Duffy.

A 32 year old Scottish striker, Duffy was easily the best centre forward in I-League 2015-16 after East Bengal's Ranty Martins. His 11 goals in the recently concluded league season is the biggest reason why Salgaocar managed to avoid relegation. Ironically, it didn't help them too much, as they ended up withdrawing their teams from the I-League only a month after the season ended.

Overall, Darryl Duffy has made 51 league appearances for Salgaocar over the last 3 seasons and scored 32 goals. His recent record, and the fact that he is not contracted to any ISL franchise right now, prompted Federation Cup winners Mohun Bagan to seek his services for the upcoming season.

Duffy, who played in the Scottish Premier League for Hibernian and Rangers as well as in the English lower tiers for prominent clubs like Swansea and Hull City, is expected to arrive in Kolkata early next month and join their practice sessions ahead of the start of the Calcutta Football League. He is also expected to wear the green-and-maroon shirt in the I-League, and AFC Cup come January, followed by their Federation Cup campaign.
