SALGAOCAR AND Sporting Clube de Goa have withdrawn from the I-League, and this has brought the Indian domestic season to the brink of failure and once again highlighted the huge flaws in the 'merger plan' propagated by AIFF and IMG-Reliance.

DID IT COME as a surprise to anybody?

Was it a shock to anyone that Sporting Clube de Goa and Salgaocar FC, two prominent football clubs that have represented Goa football in the top division for so long, were pulling out of the I-League in tandem?

It probably wasn't. Anyone who has been following Indian football for a while would have thought, well, I guess it was going to happen sooner or later.

The fact that a news of two major clubs that have contributed so much to Indian football pulling out of the country's highest league causes no surprise or shock among the fans underlines the desperate situation Indian football is in today.
