BCCI imposes ban of five years on Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf

FORMER PAKISTANI INTERNATIONAL UMPIRE ASAD RAUF has been banned by the BCCI for five years based on the charges of corruption and alleged links with the bookies. 

Earlier in 2013 IPL, Rauf who was a member of the ICC’s elite panel was accused of receiving gifts from bookies and helping them with betting in the tournament. Upon such allegations, the 55-year-old was removed from the ICC elite panel with immediate effect. 

The BCCI disciplinary committee comprising of headed by President Shashank Manohar announced the ban on the Pakistani umpire today. As reported by PTI a BCCI statement said, 

"Mr Asad Rauf has been banned for a period of five years from umpiring or playing or representing cricket in any form or anyway being associated with the activities of the Board and its Affiliates. Mr Asad Rauf did not appear before the Committee but had sent his preliminary submissions on 15th January 2016 and written statement on 8th February 2016.” 

Owing to the ban, Rauf will now be unable to associate himself with cricket or any related activities involving BCCI and its affiliates.
