Give NOC for India-South Africa match: HC tells Delhi government

AFTER THE Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) agreed to deposit Rs.1 crore as entertainment tax, the Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the Delhi government not to withhold the No Objection Certificate for the fourth Test of the ongoing India-South Africa series at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium.

A division bench of Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva asked the DDCA to deposit the money in two lots of Rs.50 lakh each with the Excise, Entertainment and Luxury Tax department of the Delhi government.

It said the first instalment was to be paid within two weeks starting Thursday and the rest two weeks thereafter.

The court also asked the government not to take any coercive measures against the DDCA regarding the Rs.24 crore entertainment tax demand made on the cricket association.

The DDCA approached the court challenging the Delhi government decision demanding Rs.24.45 crore as entertainment tax dues on the association.

The India-South Africa match is scheduled to be held from December 3 to 7. India is currently leading the four-match series 1-0 after winning the first match in Mohali.
