Former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak passes away at 49

FORMER ZIMBABWE CAPTAIN Heath Streak has passed away.

The 49 year old was diagnosed with stage 4 liver and colon cancer earlier this year. He passed away in Matabeleland surrounded by his family.

Streak was an accomplished all-rounded who was the first to take 200 ODI wickets in the history of Zimbabwe cricket. He represented his national team in 65 tests and 189 ODIs. Under his leadership Zimbabwe reached the Super Six stage of the World Cup.

Following his playing career he had an extensive streak as a coach. He served as the head coach of Zimbabwe, as a consultant for the Scotland national team and many more teams. In India, he worked at the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association Academy and also at the Kolkata Knight Riders as a bowling coach.

In 2021 he was banned by the ICC from all cricketing activities after being convicted of helping a match fixer contact players and leaking private team information. He accepted the suspension but denied the match fixing allegations.

Recently he was reported to have passed away; but his former teammate Henry Olonga revealed that he was alive. Unfortunately for cricket fans around the world, no such relief-bringing revelation arrived this time as his wife Nadine confirmed on social media that he had passed away.
