Sri Lanka suspends domestic competitions due to structure dispute

SRI LANKA HAS suspended all ongoing domestic cricket tournaments.

A statement from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced that the step was being taken due to disputes over the structure of the competitions.

In the recent past, a committee suggested a new approach for domestic cricket in Sri Lanka. The domestic circuit was split into multiple tiers connected by promotion-relegation. The top two division played 3-day cricket and teams below that played limited overs cricket only.

After one year, the relegated teams complained about lack of quality in the matches they were playing in the lower divisions. This led to SLC switching back to its old setup, undoing the reforms.

Now, disputes have risen about that decision, forcing the federation to suspend all domestic cricket until a solution satisfactory to all parties is reached.
