Sunil Narine from Trinbago Knight Riders gets first red card; Skipper Pollard not amused

THE CARIBBEAN PREMIER LEAGUE is experimenting with a "red card" and Sunil Narine became the first one on the receiving end.

When Trinbago Knight Riders failed to start the 20th over in time, their penalty was to play the last over with 10 players. As such, captrain Pollard was given the choice to pick which player would be sent away. He was not happy with the umpire's decision, but he reluctantly picked Sunil Narine to do the honours.

It's the first time the red card has made an appearance in the CPL. But unlike in other sports, the player does not get ejected from the game; they just have to sit out for one over as a punishment for the team.

As far as cricket goes, this is perhaps one of those weird innovations that will never catch on under ICC's global ruleset.
