Virat Kohli completes 15 years in international cricket, says he's 'forever grateful' in commemorative post

FORMER INDIAN CAPTAIN Virat Kohli has completed 15 years in international cricket.

It was on this day in 2008 when he played his first ever match for the senior Indian cricket team in an ODI against Sri Lanka. Before that, he had already played extensively for India's junior teams and also captained them to an U-19 World Cup title.

Since then, he has played 111 Tests, 275 ODIs and 115 T20Is for the Indian national team. He is the 269th Test player, 175th ODI player and 31st T20I player in the country's history.

Apart from the 76 centuries in international cricket across three formats, there are several world records that are integral to his legacy. He is the fastest player to score 8000, 9000, 10000, 11000 and 12000 runs. He has scored the most ODI centuries while chasing. He is the highest scorer in international T20 cricket, and has the highest batting average in the world in that format.

As captain, he has won 40 Test matches out of 68, becoming the most successful Indian Test captain ever.

At the age of 34, he still has some way to go in his career; and if the words of his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma are anything to go by, fans can still expect to see their King Kohli serving the Indian team for another few years.
