MUMBAI: One of the most prestigious cricket competitions in the world, the Asia Cup is always a fiercely contested event. The 2023 tournament promises to be an exciting matchup and will be no different, with top teams battling it out for the coveted championship. When the championships take off on August 30, all eyes will be on our Men In Blue as they face off against the other national teams.

India

India has the highest number of Asia Cup championships, remaining undefeated in 1984,1988,1990/91,1995, 2010, 2016, and 2018. India’s first match for the tournament will be against Pakistan on Sept 2 and promises to be a complete nail bitter. 

Pakistan

One of India’s biggest contenders at the championships, Pakistan is set to feature a  power-packed team with star players like Babar Azam (c), Abdullah Shafique, Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Iftikhar Ahmed, Tayyab Tahir, Shaheen Afridi and others. India has faced Pakistan 6 times at the championships, and in 2023, the arch-rival match on Sept 3 is expected to be the epicentre of the tournament.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is the star team of the Asia Cup and the defending champions of 2023. The team has a stellar record of winning at the championships, having clinched the winner’s trophy in 1986, 1997, 2004, 2008, 2014, and 2022. 

 Afghanistan

The team entered the Asia Cup in 2014 and has been a strong contender. In 2023, they are set to face Bangladesh on Sept 3 in their inaugural match at the championship. In 2018 and 2022, the team made it to the Super 4s. 

Bangladesh

The Bangladesh team has played at the Asia Cup 14 times and has come very close to winning with their record as runner-ups in 2012, 2016 and 2018. This year, the team features a powerful squad with players like Shakib Al Hasan, Liton Das, and Towhid Hridoy.

Nepal

The team of Nepal will debut at the Asia Cup this year with a stellar team featuring Rohit Paudel, Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh, Bhim Sharki, Kushal Malla, Aarif Sheikh, Dipendra Singh Airee, and others. The team qualified for 2023 by winning ACC Premier Cup earlier this year. They will kick off the Asia Cup 2023 championship with the tournament's first match on August 30 against Pakistan in Multan. 

Starting 30th of August, the current season will be co-hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan featuring a total of six teams - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal – battling it out for the winning spot. The Group Stage of the tournament will be played from 30th August to 5th September, with India and Pakistan going head-to-head on 2nd September. The next stage will be played from 6th September to 15th September while the finale is scheduled for 17th September.
