Yuki Bhambri, India’s brightest hope in tennis: Devvarman

THE CURRENT World No.99, Yuki Bhambri has been the talk of Indian tennis, ever since the Delhi lad surged into the elite group of men’s professional tennis.

As mentioned in our previous articles, India’s no.1 singles tennis player, Bhambri is now the first Indian player after Somdev Devvarman and Leander Paes since 2010 to enter the top-100.

And, former World No.62, Devvarman understands the discipline and results required to get there. As reported by Deccan Herald, in the ongoing ATP challenger in Bengaluru, Devvarman was excited about Bhambri’s emergence in the elite group and lauded the 23 year old for his dedication and hard work.

The current World No. 181 said,

“It’s an incredible effort, because he wasn’t that close earlier in his career. He didn’t spend much time between 100 and 120. He was about 140 and then he won a Challenger event, reached a final and one semis and got 200 points in three tournaments and ran into the 100 which is probably the best way to do it. He is the next big thing in India and the brightest hope we have. It’s really nice to see him finally reach his potential.”

Inconsistent results and injuries have pushed Devvarman down the rankings, but after clinching a couple of Challenger tournaments this year, Devvarman is confident of getting past the early rounds in Grand Slams and eventually grabbing more points.

Indian tennis fans will be hoping that Devvarman can find his form sooner than later and would also love to see both Devvarman and Bhambri compete in the Davis Cup for India.

Although, Bhambri has opted out of the current Air Asia Open, citing a break, Devvarman remains on course for his third Challenger title of the year.
