Lanka Premier League: Babar Azam leads Colombo to major victory

BABAR AZAM SCORED a sensational century for Colombo Strikers as they earned a hard fought victory over Galle Titans.

Batting first, Galle put on an intimidating total of 188/3. Shevon Daniel (49 off 31) and Tim Seifert (54 not out off 35) led from the front as the Galle batters knocked around Colombo bowlers. Lakshan Sandakan (1/29) and Ramesh Mendis (1/33) tried to contain their flow of runs, but that didn't go far.

Colombo needed an exceptional batting performance to chase down this total, especially with Tabraiz Shamsi (2/27) putting them through a tough spell. And Babar Azam provided just that.

The Pakistani star batter scored 104 runs off 59 balls, giving Colombo an unstoppable momentum,well supported by Pathum Nissanka (54 off 40).

Muhammad Nawaz (14 not out off 4) finished the rest of the job, getting Colombo to the target with just a ball to spare.

With this win, Colombo Strikers have broken back into the playoff race with 4 points from 4 matches; just below Galle in the points table.
