Lanka Premier League: Galle beat Dambulla in super over after thrilling tied match

GALLE GLADIATORS BEAT Dambulla Giants in super over after a thrilling tie at the Lanka Premier League today.

Batting first, Galle put together 180/5 in 20 overs, hleped by Bhanuka Rajapaksta (48 off 34) and a stormy slog over innings from Dasun Shanaka (42 not out off 21).

Dambulla bowlers did not find much success in this match; including Shahnawaz Dahani (2/37) and Binura Fernando (1/32) who all failed to stop the flow of runs. But their batters put up a good fight while chasing.

Although Dasun Shanaka (3/27) had a great spell with the ball after his success with the bat, Dambulla Giants stayed on course courtesy Dhananjaya de Silva (43 off 31), Kusal Perera (40 off 25) all pulling their weight.

Alex Ross (39 not out off 28) tried his best to get them over the line but they ended on 180/7; leaving the fate of the match on a super over.

Dambulla batted first and for Kasun Rajitha did the bowling for Galle. Alex Ross hit a boundary, and Kusal perera got out, leaving Dambulla with 9/1 from the super over.

Facing a target of 10, Bhanuka Rajapaksa got it done for Galle Gladiators in just two balls, hitting Binura Fernando for a four and a six.

Although both teams will take heart from their performance in this match before they take to the field again tomorrow, the Gladiators will have an extra spring on their steps thanks to the win to their name.
