Major League Cricket 2023 FINAL HIGHLIGHTS: Pooran purges Seattle, New York are champions!
MI NEW YORK HAVE emerged as the champions of the inaugural season of the Major League Cricket.
Taking on Seattle Orcas in the final, they chased down a difficult target with ease thanks to a tremendous innings from Nicholas Pooran.
Things started well for Seattle. They put together a respectable 183/9 thanks to Quinton de Kock (87 off 52) doing most of the heavy lifting to offset the destructive bowling spells from Rashid Khan (3/9) and Trent Boult (3/34).
But they were not ready for Nicholas Pooran to score an unbeaten 137 off just 55 balls, with 10 fours and 13 sixes, and hammer them away at a strike rate of 249%.
Pooran single handedly ensured that MI New York, who had barely qualified for the playoffs, would win the grand finale by 7 wickets; making his innings not just the best one in MLC's history so far but one of the most memorable batting performances in T20 leagues around the world.
The final match had, as usual, a sold out crowd, as was the case with most of the games in the competition; announcing the arrival of cricket to the USA as the baseball-loving nation gears up to host its first ever T20 World Cup next year.
