Lanka Premier League HIGHLIGHTS: Jaffna Kings beat Colombo Stars on opening night

THE 2023 EDITION of the Lanka Premier League got underway with Jaffna Kings scoring a major win over Colombo Stars.

The Kings' innings, which opened up the season, was much of a team effort. Other than Towhid Hridoy (54 off 39) there were no singular big scorers. Instead, it was a joint effort fom the likes of Dunith Wellalage (25 not out off 23) and Priyamal Perera (22 off 16).

For Matheesha pathirana (1/32) and Lakshan Sandakan (1/34) were the most effevtive bowlers. But the others could not keep the runs in control and Jaffna reached the score of 173/5.

While this was not the worst kind of total to chase in a T20 match, Colombo collapsed trying to get it done. Hardus Viljoen (3/31), Vijaakanth Viyaskanth (2/17) and Dlshan Madushanka (2/18) ran a bulldozer through their batting line up and no one other than Niroshan Dickwella (58 off 34) could put up significant resistance. Colombo Stars were all out for just 152.

Colombo Stars will next take on Kandy Falcons on Monday, while Jaffna Kings will return to action against Dambulla Giants on Tuesday.
