Myneni, Somdev progress ahead, Ramnathan crashes out of Air Asia Open
CURRENT WORLD NO. 166, Saketh Myneni, Somdev Devvarman (181) and Sanam Singh (279) have successfully made it to the second round of the ATP Air Asia Open, challenger tournament in Bengaluru today. Wimbledon (2015) junior doubles winner, Sumit Nagal too books his place in the second round.
However, for Ramkumar Ramnathan (248) and Vishnu Vardhan (482), the tournament has come to an abrupt end after losing in the first round.
Seeded 3 and defending Vietnam ATP challenger winner, Myneni closed out his match against Nikola Milojevic in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(4). India’s no.3 singles player, Devvarman too wasted little time in overcoming the challenge of Austrian Maximilian Neuchrist 6-4, 6-3.
Meanwhile, S Singh comfortably beat Germain Gigounon of Belgium 6-4, 6-0 in an hour and seven minutes. Wildcard, Nagal too secured a straight sets victory over compatriot Siddhart Rawat 6-4, 6-3.
Unfortunately, Ramnathan fell to Belarusian, Egor Gerasimov in three tight sets 6-3, 6-7 (3), 4-6. V Vardhan too suffered the same fate as he was conquered by Belarusian Ilya Ivaskha 6-7 (5), 1-6.
The second round will be played tomorrow and Indian fans in Bengaluru will be rooting for Myneni, Somdev and Sanam to sail through.
