Major League Cricket 2023 HIGHLIGHTS: Washington wash out LAKR's challenge

LA KNIGH RIDERS CAN'T seem to shake off their losing streak in the Major League Cricket.

The Los Angeles team picked up their fourth loss in a row when they faced Washington Freedom at Church Street Park, North Carolina.

Batting first, things were not that bad for LAKR. They had a rough start, losing Jason Roy and Nitish Kumar early. Runs were not coming in either; halfway into the innings they were just 68 for 4.

But then, Andre Russel and Rilee Rossouw (41 off 30) turned things around. They scored at the rate of well over 10 per over in their 86 run partnership that saved the innings. Russel stayed their till the end, notching up an unbeaten 70 off just 31 balls, helping LAKR put 175 runs on the board.

Chasing this substantial total, Washington Freedom played... freely. The 68 run opening partnership off just 32 balls between Matthew Short (43 off 35) and an explosive Andries Gous (40 off 15) set them up, and the steady hands of captain Moises Henriques (16* off 12) and Obus Pienaar (26* off 17) brought them home with almost two overs to spare.

With 4 points from 3 matches, Washington are now third on the table and set to have a starring role in the playoffs race. Los Angeles, however, have lost all of their 4 matches and their challenge for a place in the playoffs, at this point, seems to be over.
