Asia Cup 2023: Pakistan want more revenue share, may hold up schedule finalisation

THE DRAMA OVER ASIA CUP is showing no sense of slowing down.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), who will mostly host Pakistan's matches in Asia Cup 2023, want a large share of revenue from the majority of the matches that will be held in Sri Lanka. Specifically, they want the same share of revenue that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) got when the T20 Asia Cup was held in Dubai.

The PCB may halt the finalisation of the Asia Cup schedule at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting being held today and tomorrow (16-17 July) if their newest demand is not met.

Pakistan previously threatened to boycott the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in India if India did not play Asia Cup in Pakistan. That demand was ultimately not fulfilled.

In a commercial sense, the BCCI gets a higher share of revenue from tournaments because the Indian cricket team generates the highest revenue in international cricket. The revenue generated by the Pakistan team is a fraction of what the Indian team brings to the table.
