Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid in West Indies - 12 years later, the mission is still the same

VIRAT KOHLI HAS posted an image of himself with Rahul Dravid in Dominica, reminiscing about the series India played there in twelve years ago. The post, however, may have a deeper meaning for the Indian cricket fans.

Both Dravid and a young Kohli were a part of the Indian team when India toured West Indies in the summer of 2011. More than a decade later, Kohli is still a player, while Rahul Dravid has become the head coach. It is indeed special that both of these Indian cricket legends are continuing to serve the national team for such a long time.

However, there is another parallel to be drawn here. Back in 2011, India played West Indies in preparation of a special, historic event: the ODI World Cup they were about to host just months later. India won the test series 1-0 and after some tough match experience in the ODIs, won that series as well by a 3-2 margin.

Then, once they returned to India, they carried that good form into the World Cup and emerged as the champions.

Now, once again, India are at West Indies, preparing themselves for the biggest assignment of the year; the World Cup at home. Getting some good competitive match experience, and getting in a winning form, will be at the top of the mind for both Kohli and Dravid.

Whether Virat intends it or not, his post carries a significant historical context with it. And who knows, if history will repeat itself this time.

If India win in West Indies, that's going to be an ausipicious sign for all Indian cricket fans ahead of the World Cup.
