R Ashwin adds another feather to his hat, becomes fastest ever to reach 300 wickets

INDIA OFFIE Ravichandran Ashwin added another feather to the hat by breaking Dennis Lillee’s record and becoming the fastest player to reach 300 Tests wickets.

The Tamil Nadu-lad picked eight wickets in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Nagpur, after going wicket-less in the opening Kolkata Test. Ashwin broke the legendary Aussie bowler’s record of 300 wickets in 56-matches by achieving the same feat in just 54-matches. 

Ashwin, who has 502 wickets across format, also became the sixth Indian to have crossed the 500-wicket mark. He is the fifth Indian bowler to have taken 300 Test wickets after Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan.

Previously, Ashwin was the fastest Indian to get 50, 100, 150, 200 wickets and was the fastest in the world to 250 wickets.
