Not without Virat: Ganguly explains why the coach announcement has been put on hold

BCCI'S Cricket Advisory Committee- Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman have postponed the announcement of naming the new Indian coach for a few more days. The much-awaited call was to be taken before the end of the day today. However, the CAC addressed the media at the BCCI center at the Wankhede stadium and explained their motive behind the move.

Speaking to the journalists, former Indian skipper Ganguly informed that they are awaiting Indian skipper Virat Kohli's arrival for the United States and only after speaking to the Delhi lad will the committee reveal the name of the new coach.

Ganguly also explained how former West Indies cricketer Phil Simmons could not be interviewed for the high-profile role.

"The announcement has been put on hold. We will speak to Virat Kohli first, there is no hurry. Let him come back from America."

The southpaw also gave credit to Kohli for not suggesting any names for the post.

"Have to give credit to Kohli that he totally stayed out of it, didn't give any input on names (for coach)."

Although India will play the first Test match against Sri Lanka on the 26th July at Galle, Ganguly said the goal is to appoint a coach up right up until the 2019 World Cup.

"The Sri Lanka tour is not the objective, long-term objectives are kept in mind. The process is concluded, nobody else will be in the reckoning."

Ganguly also confirmed that Ravi Shastri, Virender Sehwag, Richard Pybus, Tom Moody and Lalchand Rajput were all interviewed for the job.
