India looking good for Champions Trophy 2017 , says Kapil Dev

AS IPL-10 enters the business end of the tournament, we edge closer to the Champions Trophy 2017. The International competition is scheduled to kick-off on June 1 in England and iconic Kapil Dev is confident about India’s performance.

Recently, the selection committee announced the squad for CT 2017, which included no surprise call-ups. Dev feels that team’s all-round strength can help them emerge victorious. The 1983 WC winning captain, who was present at the unveiling of his wax statue at Madame Tussauds Delhi, asserted that the Indian side is not overly dependent on skipper Virat Kohli. Recalling the fourth Test against Australia, Dev said,

"Have you seen the Test match against Australia at Dharamsala? Everybody had said that if Kohli doesn't play then India will lose. But we all know what happened. It is unfair to bring down other team members by thinking that India's chances depend only on him. Kohli is an important member of the team, he is a big player and he knows how to play and when to play."

The 58-year-old stated that the team’s ability to put pressure on the opponent will be key in CT2017.

"I think they are looking good. Indian team have been playing well for last five years but it depends on how well they apply themselves on that day. We definitely have the capability to win. But how they maintain themselves and put pressure on opponent that will be the key.”

When asked for his views, on the selection of the Indian team for the Champions Trophy, Dev replied,

"If they would have gone for a young team then you would have said why seniors were ignored. So it is unfair for me to criticise the selectors. They have done a good job. My opinion may be different but it is not my job to criticise them."
