6 reasons why FC Goa failed to reach the semi-finals in ISL 2016

FC GOA, A TEAM that Zico had helped build from the scratch and established as a major force in the Indian Super League, has crcumbled majorly this year, becoming the first franchise to fall out of the race to top four.

The team that wowed everyone with its distinct creating and attacking football, its fabled 'Samba Spine', finished top of the table last year and reached the grand finale, now looks set to finish at the bottom of the table.

Zico has apologized to fans for this poor show, and even gone on to say that given the circumstances, FC Goa should not have had taken part in the ISL at all.

The Brazilian coach was of course referring to the turbulent year FC Goa have had off the pitch. It all started with the controversy that unfolded after FC Goa lost the ISL final, with Chennaiyin FC's Elano and former Goa co-owner Dattaraj being involved in a scuffle that led to Elano being arrested, FC Goa being subjected to massive penalties by the ISL disciplinary committee and eventually, the majority owners of FC Goa having to sell their stakes in the team.

But is that the only reason why FC Goa failed? TFG takes a close look at all the factors that piled on and eventually led to a season to forget for the Gaurs.
