ISL: FC Goa vs Hyderabad game postponed due to Asian Games duty

FC GOA'S MATCH against Hyderabad FC, scheduled for 22nd September, has been postponed.

The fixture - which was to be the second matchday for ISL 2023-24 - had to be pushed back because AIFF wanted the Gaurs' defensive stalwart Sandesh Jhingan to be a part of India's Asian Games squad.

The club agreed to release the player on the condition that they would have no matches while Jhingan was out on national duty.

The ISL organisers FSDL and AIFF officials met and discussed the situation, and ultimately decided to agree.

India's group stage fixtures in Asian Games are on 19th Sep (vs China), 22nd Sep (vs Bangladesh) and 24th Sep (vs Myanmar). If they manage to progress to the knockout stages, they may have games all the way up to the final which is on 7th October.

FC Goa had just that one game scheduled during the Asian Games group stage. After that, they are set to play twice during the knockout stage on 2nd October (vs Punjab FC) and 7th October (vs Odisha FC). The league organisers have decided to wait and watch if those matches are affected by the national team's fixtures before deciding on potential re-scheduling down the line.
