Sameer goes down fighting to Angus; but clinches first SS Silver

SAMEER VERMA goes down fighting against local boy Ng Ka Long Angus in a thrilling three game encounter 14-21, 21-10, 11-21. Angus created history by becoming the first men's singles shuttler to clinch this title.

Sameer was in search of his first Superseries title at the Hong Kong Open, playing the final against a familiar opponent, Angus.

The head-to-head count was in favour of the Indian. It was a good start from the local shuttler as every point was cheered by the fans. The start benefited Angus to take good control of the game. He made Sameer run through the court for the points.

And it just took a little over 15 minutes for Angus to take the first game 21-14. Sameer knew he had just one shot to get back in the match in order to win.

Sameer didn't allow the pressure to get to him and came back stronger in the second game. A dominant performance from the young lad in the second game saw him take the match to the decider.

The start of the final game was in favour of the local shuttler and the cheers grew louder and louder. It was a very intense affair as both gave their all. The fans loved what they witnessed. It was a battle between two same aged players who wanted nothing but the title.

And finally the title went to 22-year-old Angus who was a better fighter on court today.
