SAMEER VERMA stuns World No. 3 Jan O Jorgensen to reach his first ever Superseries finals in straight games at the Hong Kong Open 21-19, 24-22.

His opponent the mighty Dane coming into this tournament after winning the China Open SSP title.

It was the first time that these two were facing each other. Considering the Dane's current form a tough match was on the cards for the Indian lad.

Sameer did not let the pressure get to him and started the match with a calm mind and therefore the points were all drawing towards him. The crowd cheering for every point that Sameer won boosted his confidence. But the World No. 3 did not allow Sameer to enjoy the lead for a long time, the momentum slowly started to shift.

It was a closely contested first game in which both the shuttlers showed a desire to win but Sameer capitalised on Jan's silly errors and won the first game 21-19.

The Dane replied in style in the second game as he had a commanding lead against the Indian. Going into the second game, Sameer was looking to make it to his first SS final while Jan wanted to create history by clinching two titles in Asia, the only European to do so.

But the World No. 43 gave his all and turned the result in his favour. Showing great grit and determination to beat Jan in straight games and seal a place in the finals where local boy Ng Ka Long Angus awaits him. The head-to-head count is in favour of the Indian, 2-0.

Meanwhile, women's singles shuttler PV Sindhu was brimming with confidence as she looks to clinch another title. She had a comfortable victory over crowd favourite Cheung, defeating her in straight games 21-14, 21-16. In the finals she will face Tai Tzu Ying, 4th seed. The head-to-head count is in favour of Tai 4-3.
