Ashwini Ponnappa/Sikki Reddy register first win as doubles partner
NEWLY PAIRED women's doubles duo of Ashwini Ponnappa/Sikki Reddy have started their campaign with a victory at their first outing at the Scottish Open Grand Prix.
The pair defeated second seeds from Australia Setyana Mapasa/Gronya Somerville in a thrilling three game encounter. Winning the first game 21-16, the Aussie duo came back in the second to win 21-13 to push the match to the decider.
Ashwini/Sikki won the final game to win their first match together 21-13. They now play Yin loo Lim/Yap Cheng Wen of Malaysia.
Ashwini was earlier paired with veteran Jwala Gutta but they spilt following a dismal run at the Rio Olympics. The new pairing will take time to reach the heights but a win in the first outing is a positive sign.
