Saina crashes out of Rio; Srikanth & Sindhu in round of 16

WOMEN'S SINGLES SHUTTLER Saina Nehwal was prey to her knee injury as she lost against Ukraine's Maria Ulitina in straight games 21-18, 21-19.

It was her final group stage match and a crucial one too. Not in her full fitness she went out there fought for her place in the last 16 but just couldn't overcome her pain. Went down losing to World No. 61.

A lot was riding on Saina as she held the best chances of winning a medal in Rio and it would have been her second Olympic medal after Bronze in London. But it was a great day for Ulitina who took the match away from Saina.

Meanwhile good news for Kidambi Srikanth and PV Sindhu, both seeded 9th won their respective games beating Henri Hurskainen 21-6, 21-18 and Michelle Li in a thrilling three-game match 19-21, 21-15, 21-17.

Srikanth has been in good touch at the Olympics and he should keep that momentum going ahead in the event. On the other hand, fans thought that Sindhu too would exit after losing the first game, but she fought back and won the following two games to qualify for the round of 16.
