Canada GP: Top seeds enter the quarter-finals

MEN'S SINGLES SHUTTLERS along with women's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles have earned a place in the quarter-finals of Canada grand prix.

Top seed Ajay Jayaram defeated David Obernosterer in straight games 21-10, 21-12. He next faces youngster Harsheel Dani in the quarters. Harsheel defeated compatriot Pratul Joshi in the pre-quarters 21-9, 21-18.

Fourth seed Sai Praneeth too had a straight game victory 21-19, 21-12 against Wenchao Shi. On the other hand, second seed HS Prannoy had to fight for his place in the quarters, defeated BR Sankeerth 21-18, 18-21, 21-12.

Meanwhile, Gurusaidutt was trumped by eighth seed Raul Must in another three-game match 21-12, 7-21, 21-17.

It was a positive result in the other categories. Women's singles shuttlers Ruthvika and Tanvi Lad defeated their opponents in straight games. Ruthvika beat Elisabeth Baldauf 24-22, 21-18 while Tanvi saw off Maya Chen 21-14, 21-15. It would be a tough challenge in the quarters as both face seeded players. Tanvi is up against third seed Iris Wang and Ruthvika will play fourth seed Linda Zetchiri.

Top seeds Manu Attri/Sumeeth Reddy had an easy outing in the men's doubles category as they defeated Timothy Chiu/Jason Ho-Shue 21-8, 21-10 to set up a match against Ted Chen/Liao Chao Hsiang.

Defending champions Jwala Gutta/Ashwini Ponnappa was through to the quarters after receiving bye in round one and will face Leanne Choo/Rachel Honderich.

Mixed doubles pair of Manu Attri/Ashwini Ponnappa will face fourth seeds Nico Ruponen/Amanda Hogstrom after the former defeated Jonathan Lai/Michelle Tong 21-14, 21-12 in the pre-quarters.
